Went to Penang so what to do? Suntan at the beach? No, rented a car and went southward, drove around 3 hrs or so and arrived at this famous penang laksa stall at Balik Pulau Market. Unlike Laksa Lemak or Katong Laksa, Penang Laksa is an aquired taste, at least for the Japanese palate. I myself do not crave for it (I could eat it). I guess I find it difficult to find pleasures in tasting Hae Ko -that smelly prawn syrup. What defines, great hae ko? I would definitely like to comprehend.
Humble Japanese, trying to de-mystify Singapore cuisine and food culture. This is not a restaurant / stall rating blog.
