A Study in Chee Pow Kai 鸡包纸

Paper-wrapped chicken (鸡包纸)anyone? Generally speaking, whenever I come across a Japanese who has lived as an expat in Singapore mentions this dish with such enthusiasm. But why? I find this festive dish (is it uniquely Singaoprean? don't think so..), rather predictable in terms of flavor -marinated chicken (red meat) in soy sauce, sugar, seseme oil and ginger juice wrapped in paper then deep fried.
